[Trim]

This command uses a mouse to trim an area of an image.

[Currnet area]

The area selected with the mouse is shown here. Change the values to Fine-tune the area by entering the exact area.

[Previous area]

The area you trimmed last time is shown here.

[Previous area]Button

Sets the area to trim to the area you trimmed last time.

[Blink...]

This command Displays multiple images alternately to makes the difference between them "blink". This command is useful to find a moving object or a nova.

[Window]

The list of images that will be displayed is shown in the list. You can add or remove images with the [Add] button and the [Remove] button.

This command changes the location of the image. Clicking the right-left-up-down button, the image moves by 1 pixel. Clicking the button while holding down the Shift key moves the image by 10 pixels per click. Clicking While holding down the Ctrl key moves the image by 0.1 pixels per click.

[Blink]

Set the speed of alternization in units of milliseconds.

[Start] button

This command starts the blinking. While blinking, this button changes to a [Stop] button. Click it to stop blinking.

Tips

The difference in brightness of the shared parts of the images will be smaller when blinking if you give them all the same gradation level.

This command add the count value of a specified radius in the image and subtracts the bachground light to determin the brightness of an object "aperture photometry". and average brightness and minimum brightness, maximum brightness of a specified rectangle in the image "rectangle photometry".

Please refer to [Processing]-[Aperture Photometry] and [Processing]-[Rectangle Photometry] for details.

[Aperture Photometry...]

This comand adds the count value of a specified radius on the image and subtracts the background light to determin the brightness of an object. This procedure is known as an "aperture photometry".

When saving an image as a FITS file after performing astrometry, the following dialog will be displayed.

"Aperture Photometry result does it save at extension?"
(This is a bad translation, and will be changed. It means to say, "Do you want to save the results of aperture photometry in the extension?" )

By clicking [Yes], the results of the aperture photometry will be saved and can be reproduced when the image is opened again.

[Radius]

[SemiAuto] Performs aperture photometry based on the star radius, SKY InRadius, and SKY Radius Width specified manually.
[Search Centroid]Check Box: When checked, searches the centroid within the range specified in [Search Centroid].
[Auto] Performs aperture photometry with the Star radius, SKY InRadius, SKY Radius Width, and the centroid calculated automatically.

[Radius setup]

Specify the star radius, SKY radius, SKY width, and the area to search for the centroid.
[Default]Button: Returns the values to the default values of Makali`i.

[Mark]

[Hide] Hides the aperture marks on the image.
[Show] Displays all the aperture marks on the image.
To remove marks, remove the aperture photometry data by using the [Remove] button or the [Remove All] button.

[{triangle}] button

Pushing the {triangle} button can hide in the interface concerning the settings of the [Radius] and the [Radius setup], etc. also, pushing the {inverted triangle} button can show in the interface concerning the settings.

[Print...] button

Saves the aperture photometry results in either text format or CSV format.

[Remove] button

Removes the selected aperture photometry result from the list.

[Remove All] button

Remove all aperture photometry results from the list.

Tips

The dialog of Graph and Aperture Photometry and Rectangle Photometry, Astrometry can be non-displayed by pushing the F3 key. The dialog of Graph and Aperture Photometry and Rectangle Photometry, Astrometry can be displayed by pushing the F4 key. Also, the item of "Processing display" within the status bar display the display or non-display of these Dialog.

There is Dialog of non-display when "*" is displayed in the status of "ON".

In this state, if the F4 key is pushed, dialog of Graph and Aperture Photometry and Rectangle Photometry, Astrometry is displayed, and if the F3 key is pushed, these dialog becomes non-display.

[Rectangle Photometry...]

This command average brightness and minimum brightness, maximum brightness of a specified rectangle in the image. "rectangle photometry".

When saving an image as a FITS file after performing photometry, the following dialog will be displayed.

"Rectangle Photometry result does it save at extension?"
(This is a bad translation, and will be changed. It means to say, "Do you want to save the results of aperture photometry in the extension?")

By clicking [Yes], the results of the rectangle photometry will be saved and can be reproduced when the image is opened again.

[Mark]

[Hide] Hides the rectangle marks on the image.
[Show] Displays all the rectangle marks on the image.
To remove marks, remove the rectangle photometry data by using the [Remove] button or the [Remove All] button.

[Print]

[Print...] Saves the rectangle photometry results in either text format or CSV format.
[Copy] Copy the rectangle photometry result in clip board

[Remove]

[Remove] Removes the selected rectangle photometry result from the list.
[Remove All] Remove all rectangle photometry results from the list.

[{triangle}] button

Pushing the {triangle} button can hide in the interface concerning the settings of the [Mark] and the [Print], etc. also, pushing the {inverted triangle} button can show in the interface concerning the settings.

In this state, if the F4 key is pushed, dialog of Graph and Aperture Photometry and Rectangle Photometry, Astrometry is displayed, and if the F3 key is pushed, these dialog becomes non-display.

[Astrometry...]

Detect the peak of the count value in a specified area of an image, such as a star image and measure its position. NOTE: The measurements are the (x, y) position of physical coordinatesto FITS image pixels, not the celestial coordinates.

When saving an image as a FITS file after performing astrometry, the following dialog will be displayed.

"Astrometry result does it save at extension?"
(This is a bad translation, and will be changed. It means to say, "Do you want to save the results of astrometry in the extension?")

By clicking [Yes], the results of the astrometry will be saved and can be reproduced when the image is opened again.

[Method]

[Centroid] Measures the position of the centroid within the region of specified radius from where you clicked. The region is showed with a circular pointer when you click on the image.
[Auto] The centroid within a 10 pixel radius is calculated.
[Semi Auto] The centrod within the radius you specify is calculated.
[Radius] Specify the radius here.
[Detect] Measures the positions of all the peaks in the specified region.
[Factor] When using the [Detect] option, a count less than the (Factor) * (Standard deviation) + (Mean Count) is ignored. Increase this value for noisy images, so the peaks of noises will not be measured as the result.

[Mark]

[Hide] Hides the astrometry marks on the image.
[Show] Displays all the astrometry mark on the image. To remove marks, remove the astrometry data by using the [Remove] button or the [Remove All] button.

*Note

Up to version 1.2b, we specified the area to calculate the centroid as a rectangle. From version 1.3, we calculate the centrod from a circular region. So, the calculated value of the centroid can be different.

[Graph...]

Displays a slice graph of count values in a line segment specified with a mouse.

For more details see: Use of graphtool.

[Contour...]

Makali`i makes a contour image (isophotes) of the active image in a new window.

[Step]

Specify the number of isophotes.

[Process for Outside Levels] checkbox

When this checkbox is checked, the isophotos of count values outside the gradation levels will be drawn.

Note:

You cannot use the [Trim...], [Blink...], [Aperture Photometry...], [Astrometry] and [Graph...] commands on a contour (isophotos) image.
